How a pivot door works.
Instead of hinges on the side, a pivot door rotates around two points: a pivot in the floor and one in the head of the frame. The panel turns on that vertical axis, so part of it swings into the room and part swings away as it opens.
Those pivot points carry the weight directly to the structure, so the frame is not bearing the load the way a hinged jamb would. That is what lets a pivot door be taller and wider than a standard door without sagging over time.
