Small modern detached studio with large aluminum windows opening to a garden

For ADU builders

Aluminum windows & doors for ADU builders

An accessory dwelling unit is a small project where the window and door line carries more weight than it does on a main house. A 600 square foot ADU might spec 6 to 10 windows and 2 to 4 doors, and the glazing decides how the space feels. Crateworks supplies thermally-broken aluminum windows and doors built to the rough openings on your ADU plans, quoted as a package, shipped direct.

We work with custom homebuilders, design-build firms, and dedicated ADU builders. Trade pricing and damage-replacement coordination apply once you join the Crateworks trade program.

Why builders use Crateworks for ADUs

On a small footprint the W&D line item is a larger share of the build cost, so direct-source savings are visible per unit. Aluminum frames carry larger glass with slim sightlines, which is how a small ADU floor plan reads as generous. Every order is custom to the opening, so the spec matches what is on your plans and your sequencing fits your calendar.

What fits an ADU well

Compact bifold doors

A 6 to 12 foot bifold turns an ADU living wall into an indoor-outdoor space, which lets a small floor plan live larger. Built to the opening, with slim aluminum stiles.

Sliding patio doors

Slim profile slider, multi-track configurations. Better for ADUs where wall clearance is tight and a bifold's stack depth is not available.

Fixed and picture windows

Large pane, slim frame. Pulls light deep into a small floor plan without giving up wall for an operable sash. Pairs with casements for ventilation.

Casement windows

Side-hinged ventilation in tight rooms. The sash swings out, so the casement is one of the few operable options that does not need swing clearance inside a small ADU room.

Aluminum entry door

Thermally-broken aluminum entry door with optional sidelite, sized to the ADU plan. Holds the building envelope without the bulk of a residential steel or wood door.

Common questions

ADU footprints reward glazing that does more than one job. A bifold or large slider on the main elevation opens the living space to the yard. Fixed and picture windows pull light into a small floor plan without losing wall surface. Casement windows give ventilation in tight rooms without a swing path. Crateworks builds these to the rough opening so the spec matches the plan, not a stock size.
On a small footprint the W&D line item is a larger share of the build cost than on a full custom home, so the savings from removing the dealer margin are more visible per unit. Lead times and damage replacement are coordinated with us, not handed off to a regional rep, which matters when an ADU schedule is tighter than a main-house schedule.
Yes. Most ADU builders prefer one quote for the whole opening schedule, sized to the plan. We return a line-item breakdown so you can see unit pricing, the tariff line, and the package total. The quote holds from purchase order through delivery.
Code paths for ADUs vary by jurisdiction and by whether the ADU is detached, attached, or a conversion. Some cities apply the same energy and structural rules as the main residence and some apply a lighter path. We confirm any required certification in writing before a project that depends on it.
Custom-order aluminum W&D is built to the spec on every order, so timelines are tied to the production schedule, not pulled from inventory. We confirm the production window before order and lock it in writing. ADU builders running multiple projects can sequence orders to match their build calendar.
Yes. Repeat ADU builders are a primary trade audience for Crateworks. The trade program is built for firms running ongoing project pipelines: preferred pricing, install certification, and damage-replacement coordination. Apply through the trade page.
