The kitchen sink is bought three times on most projects: once by the cabinet maker who needs the cutout, once by the plumber who needs the drain, and once by whoever finally picks the tap. Crateworks quotes it as one line with the cabinetry and the tap, so the cutout, the bowl, and the finish are decided together. Quartz composite, and why it wins on a busy kitchen

Quartz composite is crushed quartz bound in resin, moulded as one piece. It does not dent when a pan lands in it, it does not water-spot the way brushed stainless does, and the colour runs through the material rather than sitting on the surface, so a scratch does not show a different colour underneath.

Against stainless: quieter under running water, warmer to look at, better at hiding daily use. Against fireclay: lighter, so the cabinet carcass does not need reinforcing, and considerably less prone to chipping at the front edge.

Matte black is the finish we supply most, and it is the one that sits properly against both dark cabinetry and pale stone. It wants wiping after use in hard-water areas, which is the honest trade for how it looks.

Double bowl, single, prep, bar

Double bowl at 830 by 475 by 254mm is the main-run standard: one side for washing, one for draining or soaking, deep enough for a roasting tray. This is the size that suits most custom kitchens with a 900mm sink base.

Single bowl at 380 by 445 by 220mm is the prep or bar size. It goes on the island, in the butler pantry, or at the coffee bar. Most whole-home kitchens end up wanting one of these as well as the main sink, and it is the one most often forgotten until the cabinet drawings come back.

Undermount throughout, which means a stone or solid-surface counter with a polished cut edge. Send the counter material with the sink schedule so the fabricator gets the template right the first time.

Get the cutout and the tap decided together

Three dimensions have to agree before anything is ordered: the sink bowl, the cabinet the bowl sits in, and the counter cutout. The failure mode is a 33 inch sink specified into a 30 inch sink base, discovered when the stone is already templated. Because we quote the cabinetry and the sink together, that check happens on paper.

Tap hole count is the other one. A single pull-down tap needs one hole, adding a soap dispenser or a filtered-water tap needs more, and composite sinks are drilled at the factory rather than on site. Decide the tap before the sink is ordered.

Composite if you want it quiet, warm-looking, and forgiving of daily use, and you are willing to wipe it in a hard-water area. Stainless if you want the lowest-maintenance surface and do not mind water spots and the occasional dent. On custom work with dark cabinetry, composite in matte black is the one that usually wins.
Double bowl at 830 by 475 by 254mm for the main run, and single bowl at 380 by 445 by 220mm for prep, island, or bar duty. Both undermount, both matte black. Other configurations including apron front are a sourcing question, so send the drawing and the counter material.
It is quoted with the tap, which is not quite the same thing as arriving in one box. The point is that the tap hole count, the tap finish, and the bowl are decided at the same time instead of three weeks apart. Kitchen taps are supplied in the same finish families as the bath schedule.
Quartz composite tolerates normal kitchen heat, but do not park a pan straight off the burner in the bowl and walk away. No moulded sink material likes sustained direct heat, and that includes fireclay. Use a trivet, same as you would on the counter.

Yes, and most whole-home kitchens should. The single bowl at 380 by 445mm is the same material and colour as the main sink, which matters more than it sounds when the island is in the same sightline as the main run.
