Bedside sconces: hardwired wall-mount at 36-42" off the mattress, replaces table lamps. Vanity sconces: flank the mirror at face height for shadow-free task lighting. Picture lights: mount above artwork, focused beam down. Stair sconces: line the wall at every other step or at landings.
Hardwired or plug-in, fixed or swing-arm
Hardwired connects to a junction box in the wall. Clean install, no cord, requires electrical rough-in. Plug-in works with a hidden cord routed to a nearby outlet, useful in retrofits where rough-in is not possible.
Swing-arm sconces extend and retract via articulated arm, used for reading beside beds and reading chairs. Fixed sconces sit flat against the wall.
