Interior Folding Doors

An interior folding door is a set of slim aluminum-framed glass panels hinged to each other so they concertina back against the wall. It lets you close two spaces off or open them into one wide opening on demand. Crateworks builds folding sets to your opening width and panel count.
Best for: Closets, and connecting a dining room to a kitchen where you want the opening fully clear sometimes and closed off other times.
Built to your opening
Every interior folding door is made to order. You specify:

Common questions
- How many panels can a folding door have?
- Panel count depends on the opening width and how the panels stack. Wider openings use more, narrower panels for a tidy fold. Crateworks sizes the set to your opening so the panels stack cleanly to one or both sides. We confirm the layout in the quote.
- Where do interior folding doors stack when open?
- The panels fold flat against the wall at one or both ends of the opening, taking up a shallow depth roughly equal to the stacked panel thickness. That stacking zone needs to be clear of switches and trim, which we check before building.
- Can a folding door work as a closet door?
- Yes. A lighter folding configuration is a common closet door, since it opens the full width without a deep swing and tucks the panels to the side. The same system scales up to divide larger rooms.
A different category than a hollow-core slab
Most interior doors sold in the US are hollow-core: a thin MDF or veneer face over honeycomb cardboard, hung on stamped hinges. They warp in humidity, dent on impact, chip at the edges, and look like the cheapest finished element in the room. They exist to fill an opening, not to be part of the design.
A interior folding doors from Crateworks is a slim aluminum frame with glass or mirror infill, built to your opening, color-matched to the room, on hardware sized to carry the panel weight. Aluminum does not warp or rust, the finish does not need repainting, and the panel reads as architectural detail across the room rather than a closet front to hide.
